Using AI to Design a Project
- What AI-generated design did you create? The Ai-generated design I created was an app called Goalflow. This app is meant to help start up business in giving them an app where they manage all their tasks needed to start their business up or maintain their business. Not only that, it helps with clearly communicating to your team on what needs to be done for the business to be successful.
- Was generative AI a good designer or assistant? The generative AI did a good job being an assistant being able to generate lot of ideas and even giving a general framework on the steps I needed to take to create the app. However I don’t think it was a good designer as the ideas it generated I felt weren’t unique. Although it helped me create a product design that I liked, I felt like it wouldn’t stand out against other competitors. In addition, more research would be needed on top of testing the product would make the app practical and be considered a good design.
- What accelerated your design process? The AI generated many ideas and even helped with building a framework on how to create the app. It overall helped me with building a general ideas that I could build upon and helped me get started.
- What slowed you down? I think what slowed me down is the UI ideas it had. The mockup generated image of the app it created was quite complex looking even though the point of the app is to be more simple than other management apps that businesses use. So it would take me much longer to figure out a good layout from just using the AI rather than looking at other apps as inspiration. Plus, have to double check any factual information they give to me because they are not always accurate.
- How might you approach your design process differently using tools like these in the future? I think in the future I would mostly use AI to help generate some ideas and even build a framework on how to approach a project so I have somewhere to start. I feel like I have a difficult time starting so using AI to jumpstart my creative process is very helpful.
- What are the ethical implications of completely outsourcing UX design to AI? I think the main ethical implications of completely outsourcing UX design to AI is that it can possibly be generic designs and and over reliance on the AI to create a product design rather than just to assist you.
